In October of 2010 I got an email from Nathan Ohlendorf of THE SKETCH CARD STUDIO asking me to grant him a license to produce a Vampress Luxura Sketch Card Set. At the time I had no idea what a Sketch Card Set was. Nathan and I got on the phone and had a great conversation about what Sketch Cards are and the market for them. I was skeptical at first but from talking to Nathan, I could tell that this guy was passionate about art, comics and most of all Sketch Cards.
The last Vampress Luxura card set was the Chromium Set which anyone who has ever seen knows that it is absolutely beautiful! I would rather not do a Luxura card set at all than do one that is not something that I or Luxura fans would really like. Since I am working on the new graphic novel I figured that a new Luxura Card Set would be a great way to introduce her to new readers as well as give existing fans something VERY cool to collect.
The card set was released in April of 2011 and the sales have been EXCELLENT! I have to give most of the credit to Nathan! he did a fantastic job of choosing some very talented artists and making sure that the project was first class all the way.
If you haven't gotten one of the sketch cards yet then you really should. I know it sounds like a sales pitch but these cards are REALLY cool. When Nathan sent me a batch of samples I laid them all out and was looking at them for at least an hour. It was just amazing the amount of detail that some of the artists put into the illustrations. In many cases, you can hardly call these "sketches".
